Khoj Quest: Art And Gaming

This workshop for children aged 10-15 aims to explore questions like “What does it take to make a game?"; “How does one design game worlds?"; and “What games do we like to play and why?" Shradha Jain and Mohini Dutta, artists-in-residence for Khoj studio’s ongoing gaming residency “Of Games-II", will guide the participants through a hands-on experience of game development, physical games and sports, and video games.

A musical that speaks of the magic of poetry and unrequited passion between Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam. The Hindi play, directed by Saif Hyder Hasan and starring Shekhar Suman and Deepti Naval in the lead roles, takes the characters back in time to a mellow Delhi winter as they poignantly discuss the “what ifs" of life. 2 hours, 15 minutes.

An NCPA-Jazz Addicts presentation, the concert will “jazzify" songs by Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, among others. Hear them being rendered a little differently by flautist Rajeev Raja, along with guitarist Sanjay Divecha, bassist Karl Peters, saxophonist Ryan Sadri and Merlin D’Souza on keyboard, among others.

The film festival by the Enlighten Film Society packs in three acclaimed works of director-scriptwriter Billy Wilder, one of the stalwarts of Hollywood’s golden age—the 1930s-1960s. Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard and Ace In The Hole deal with the recurring theme of man’s efforts to rise above painful oblivion or the mundane.

Madras Market is a celebratory event where people from all walks of life come together to enjoy two days of shopping, music, food, entertainment, creative workshops, games and other activities. The event’s fourth edition will feature a flea market of clothes, accessories and food stalls, a gaming zone, and music performances by composer A.R. Rahman’s students from the KM Music Conservatory. There will be over 130 stalls from different parts of the country, in addition to a children’s zone and fitness zone.

The Romance Of Abstract

A group show on mixed-media abstract works by artists such as Achuthan Kudallur, Manish Pushkale and Sheetal Gattani. The artists’ visual language resonates with simplicity and an emphasis on form and rhythm. Each artist uses different forms, like hieroglyphs and geometric patterns, to express their inner and outer emotions.

To Let The World In

Director Avijit Mukul Kishore’s To Let The World In is a two-part film project that looks at an important period in the history of contemporary Indian art, focusing mostly on the works of three generations of visual artists. The first part features intimate conversations with artists born in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The artists featured in this film include Arpita Singh, Gulammohammed Sheikh and Vivan Sundaram, along with art critic and curator Geeta Kapur. The documentary film, in English, will be screened as part of the ongoing Film Festival at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA).

Nostalgia 2014

Capturing the struggles of artists at a time when there was no art market to speak of, few galleries to showcase work and only a handful of private collectors, Nostalgia 2014 features the works of well-known artists like Arpana Caur, Akbar Padamsee, Yusuf Arakkal, Satish Chandra, G.S. Shenoy, Paresh Hazra, Ashoke Mullick and K.M. Adimoolam. The oldest painting is from 1969.

German artist Helga Paris captured images with incredible sensitivity, and portrayed the life and times of people during the East German post-war period. The select photographs at this exhibition narrate stories of the “melancholic vitality of East Berlin corner bars" and old Berlin streets during the 1970s. Some of the photographs also tell stories of the artist’s own early wartime and post-war experiences.

Cinema Ghar—Through The Lens Of Late Rituparno Ghosh

The festival will focus on the life and works of the late director Rituparno Ghosh, through an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs, theatre, dance and music performances, debates, film screenings and lectures. Ghosh died of a heart attack last year in Kolkata.
