Amit Shah indicates BJP ready to drop demand for equal seats in Maharashtra
Shah appeals to the Shiv Sena leadership to work towards a settlement that is honourable for both parties
Mumbai: Indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ready to drop its demand for equal sharing of seats in the 15 October Assembly polls in Maharashtra, party president Amit Shah appealed to the Shiv Sena leadership to work towards a settlement that is honourable for both parties.
Shah, who is on a two-day state tour, was addressing party workers in Kolhapur on Thursday. He said, “We have walked two steps forward, you (Sena) should come two steps forward."
Talks between the two parties over seat-sharing have came to grinding halt, as the BJP was insisting that they contest 135 seats each after leaving some seats to smaller partners of the Mahayuti, or grand alliance, while the Shiv Sena was steadfast on its position of contesting at least 150 seats. Maharashtra Assembly’s total strength is 288.
